Frequently asked questions.

What is Counseling?

Counseling is a process that includes talking to a trained professional (like me!) to identify concerns, increase understanding, develop coping skills, and improve mental and emotional health. Typically, the first few sessions are spent gathering information, building a relationship, creating a plan, and setting goals moving forward. Each session looks unique and is based off of your needs. When helpful, I will introduce specific tools, interventions, and occasionally reading or homework to help support your growth. Healing and restoration happen best together.

What Should I expect in counseling?

Counseling is unique for each individual! A counselor’s job is to provide empathetic, nonjudgmental support as we help clients find clarity, healing, and restoration. You are in charge of your healing journey and get to set the pace. Sometimes, we may discuss difficult or emotional content/memories—together, we will provide the care and comfort they need.

Is what I share in counseling confidential?

One of the greatest values of counseling is having a safe, compassionate space to process honest, raw, and unfinished thoughts and emotions. Together, we will work to create a strong relationship within the counseling room. Information shared within the counseling room will be held confidential. However, some situations require confidentiality to be disrupted for your safety or the safety of others.

The following laws are set in place that require the counselor to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately:

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, the counselor will make every effort to ensure the individual's safety. If an individual does not cooperate, additional measures may need to be taken.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person, including a child or the elderly, the counselor is required to report to the appropriate authorities.

  • If the counselor receives a court order, the therapist may be required to release information.

Do you take insurance?

I am unable to take insurance at this time. However, I encourage you to explore the benefits that mental health counseling can provide in your daily life. I am motivated to help you succeed!
